“May you live in interesting times” … and not forget them!
That old Chinese curse certainly can come back to haunt us if we ever forget what has happened in the past when things got ‘interesting’.
We definitely live in interesting times today! Not necessarily all of it good times, but undeniably interesting! That last part of the title though…it’s actually the more important point; it’s about defending against the damage that comes with forgetting or erasing those “interesting times”.
When it comes to who and what we are as individuals and Nations it’s about our Collective memory. Individuals remember things through their filters of life, and often no two persons will have the perfectly identical perception of an event and even if they did, how could you prove it? It often takes the assembly of many individual viewpoints to reproduce that event as a reliably accurate recreation.
The fact is, memory makes up who We Are, how we think, how we behave. And when it comes to survival, memory is an important tool! It reminds us of what is dangerous and what is not, what is pleasurable and what is painful, what moves us forward and what holds us back as a society and individuals. Without memory we’re reduced, diminished, to near nothing. Just ask any dementia caregiver.
The same principle applies to Nation States, including our Republic. The collective memory of a nation contains the lessons necessary for its survival. Without the memory of those challenges and its lessons, this nation would have fallen to internal collapse and strife long ago instead of adapting and defending the principles that are often threatened by powerful societal change.
So what happens when we corrupt or erase the collective memory of a Nation? Historic truths and the lessons derived from them are turned into fraudulent or even forgotten realities. Like a damaged piece of your DNA, those cancerous falsehoods metastasize over and over through time until the original Truths and principles are lost and its lessons obscured and unraveled by the tumors of Lies.
History shows us that administrations and politicians are all too happy to portray and rewrite history to exonerate themselves and confederates for Acts that would surely gain them public censure, if not imprisonment, were they ever to come to light. So whose job is it to inquire, record and preserve the TRUTH then? If those who might gain from its repurposing are the only ones willing to preserve it, the world, and your perceptions of it, are theirs to mold as they wish.
And that is EXACTLY what has happened with the facts surrounding the 2020 election and the events of January 6th 2021! The senatorial “Powers that be” in this country have decided that they will memorialize January 6th as an insurrection defended by the brave forces of democracy. And that is a flat lie. What really happened that day?
The people arrived at Their House to be heard and seek redress from Congress and were treated to a riot of violence, death and injury, followed by persecution and imprisonment without due process or Justice. Nothing short of tyranny.
But who will remember it that way? As Congress memorializes the event with brass plaques cementing the lie within the House of the People, where is your outrage and outcry against memorializing these half truths and full lies?
Who will defend the TRUTH and protect it for the future, for history, for the Republic?
Well I’m sorry to tell you that no one is coming to rescue us in that way because it’s only We the People on this sacred ground we call a nation. If YOU do not defend the truth, if YOU do not seek Justice, if YOU do not preserve true history, YOU doom this Republic to future tyranny and a true slavery of the mind. In these many viewpoints, lies a cumulative Truth that those truly guilty have tried to hide and recreate in their own false image, to hide their own faults and inactions from those whom they supposedly Represent!
Will you do your part in preserving these truths so History is portrayed accurately and True? Will you pass these written and spoken Truths to a new generation so that they do not repeat these mistakes of History and believe in the false manipulative lies of power?
The Constitution says it’s really up to us, and I don’t mean We the people, I mean ME the people. You, me, everyone in this country, who is a citizen of the Republic, has a duty to Truth, Justice and to preserve the American way of life, Liberty and Freedom
